Institute Menezes Braganza is a cultural institution from Goa, India, which seeks to promote language and literature, art and culture in the State. It was formerly known as the Institute Vasco da Gama and established on 24 November 1871. It was originally set up by the Portaria Provincial No. 332 dated 24 November 1871. ==Renamed== After the end of Portuguese rule in Goa, it was renamed after a prominent campaigner against colonial rule. It was financed by the Government of Goa. In 1997, the Government of Goa took over the institution, and re-established it as a society under the Indian Registration of Societies Act, 1860. According to official documents, its aims are to "focus mainly on the promotion of activities in the fields of Language, Literature, Art & Culture in Goa".〔(Activities of the Institute Menezes Braganza )〕 It also "primarily seeks to promote Goan talent in allied areas and to meet the versatile cultural interests of Goan society as a whole."
